Help!
ODIMS is a data portal providing access to reported data, layers created from these data and corresponding maps.
The information below is intended to give some additional context and information to improve the useability of ODIMS for you, the user.
Submissions
Data are divided into packages when they are uploaded to the site- submissions is our name for these packages. A submission usually includes spatial data (which goes on to be presented as a layer), the originally reported data which has been quality controlled as tabulated data (usually in MS Excel format) and metadata (in xml format). The figure below explains how submissions sit in the context of information presented in ODIMS [example information presented in grey]:
Layers
This is the spatial representation of data reported as submissions. Other data/information that form the submission are attached to the layer, this can be seen under "Data Sources and Related Files" on the Layer page [highlighted by the red box in the image below]:
Maps
This tab links you to spatial data in the form of individual layers on the compilation of layers as maps. As a user, you cannot save maps to this listing, but you can create a map using the following method:
Any layer can be added to a map control using the button on the top right of the layer listing:
an icon will appear in the lower right of the screen:
add additional layers to the map:
the layers can be clicked and dragged to reorder how they appear in the map.
Click "View Map" to see the map!:
Take a note of the URL as you can come back to this map whenever you like; the link can even be shared!:
There are additional tools on the lower right hand side of the menu bar with "Embed or share this Custom Map". Within this is prepared code that you can embed into other webpages [highlighted by the red box in the image below]:
Here is the "Fixed iFrame" code embedded in this page:
Search
"Search" > "Advanced Search" allows you to browse and search all data that has been uploaded to ODIMS, using keywords in the search box at the top of the page, or by adding filters from the drop-down boxes on the left hand side. The data can also be reordered by reporting date, submission title of best match.
Browsing Maps and Layers
ODIMS has a number of curated "Maps" and "Layers" that can be referenced and shared.
The "Maps", "Layers" and "Search" tabs are a gateway to exploration of spatial data on ODIMS. From here you can search for a map or create a custom map, which will open the Custom Map Viewer.
Developer Access
"About" > "Technical Information" is the place for developers to get started referencing ODIMS Source Data in their systems. It includes instructions on using the web services, links to the source code of ODIMS and ODIMS Geoserver and Geoportal instance
Downloading
All data can be downloaded in a variety of formats, for use in other applications. All presented data can be accessed via the ODIMS webservices too, this information is shared on the "Technical Information" page.
